The name Bertram means "the shining raven" (from Old High German "beraht" = shining and "hraban" = raven).
Ravens are among the largest species within the order Passerines and are the most intelligent birds.
Ravens feature in legends and fairy tales around the world. According to this, ancient gods and kings used their wisdom, intelligence and ability to fly. In many fairy tales, for example, there is often talk of the wise raven "röiven" (old German), who shows lost hikers the right way (and often also gives a few tips along the way).
In Norse mythology, the raven symbolizes wisdom. The god Odin always had with him the two ravens Hugin and Munin who would sit on his shoulders and tell him what was going on in the world.
Hugin belongs to the Old Norse verb "huga" (to think), the stem-related noun "hugi" (thought, meaning) is in turn the basis for the name Hugin. Munin derives from the Old Norse verb "muna" (to remember).
